Reading schemes and phonics teaching at Hillshott
To help them become confident readers children can choose from a range of books graded into difficulty levels using the book banded system. The reading schemes that they can choose a book from are-

Children at Hillshott are systematically taught phonics using the “Letters and Sounds” scheme which is combined with the Jolly Phonics program in the Foundation Stage and continued as needed to support children through key stage 1.
All children are encouraged to enjoy reading and the process of learning to become fluent readers, in addition to learning their phonics skills they are also supported with learning to read in other age appropriate ways.
