Chris Bassett

My name is Chris Bassett and I am the Chair of Governors. I am also the Safe Guarding Link Governor and a member of the Curriculum Committee.

I have worked in a variety of occupations prior to working in schools, including being an army musician, a transport manager and a self employed ventriloquist and puppeteer. In 2001 I was employed by a Letchworth based company for 2 years to work in a primary school focussing on children’s mental health and well being.  After my contract finished, I worked as a Teaching Assistant in a behavioural unit within a mainstream secondary school in Nottingham. I moved back to Hertfordshire in 2005, working as a higher level teaching assistant (HLTA) at a special needs school for 11-16 year old boys who had emotional and behavioural difficulties. I became the history and RE teacher as an unqualified teacher taking the boys through to their GCSEs. In 2017 I swapped roles to again work as a HLTA in an infant and nursery school where I worked until my retirement in July 2020.

Although I no longer work in school, I believe that I still have a wealth of experience, skills and knowledge which I believe will be an asset to the governing body here at Hillshott.

Tom Holt

My name’s Tom Holt and I am the vice Chair of Governors. I am a parent governor with link responsibilities for English as well as being joint Chair of the Finance and Resources Committee and the Data Protection Officer.

I am an accountant and work solely with charities and other not-for-profit organisations. I have two children, the youngest of which is currently at Hillshott School. My motivation for becoming a governor is to help make Hillshott the best it can possibly be both for my children and everyone else that attends/will attend the school.

Kavaljit Dev

My name is Kavaljit Dev and I volunteered to be a Governor in July 2019. I am a member of the Curriculum Committee and the link Governor for Early Years Foundation Stage and Maths.

My background is Secondary School and FE teaching in Mathematics and Information technology, Quality management and Staff Development. I took early retirement from my last job as a senior e-Learning advisor for FE colleges and Universities in London and now concentrate on my family business in Elderly Health Care.

I joined the Governing body of Hillshott School to put my knowledge and personal skills to use in order help make a positive impact and support the school and staff to maximise the potential in every child.

Paul Valente

My name’s Paul Valente and I am a co-opted governor on the Finance and Resources Committee.

I am a Mechanical Engineer and work in the Aerospace Sector. My motivation for being a School Governor is to strive for the best for local children at Hillshott School and to give something back to the community that I have called home for nearly a decade.
