Diversity
At Hillshott, we celebrate the diversity of our school community and are committed to promoting fairness and equality for all. This is reflected in our policies, our curriculum, our school resources, and in how we communicate with the children.
As educators, we are in a privileged position to be able to educate and guide children towards a greater understanding of race equity. Staff have received anti-racism training to support us in this important work and we are always looking for new opportunities to develop this further.
We also encourage our children, their families, and staff to embrace what makes them unique and to always show kindness and respect to everyone, regardless of their background.
So, what have we done so far?
Raising the profile...
Continuing the journey...
Our journal highlights some of the key steps we’ve taken to promote race equity, diversity, and inclusion at Hillshott. We are committed to continuing this important work and welcome any feedback on how we can further strengthen a sense of belonging for all our children, families, and staff.

Going forward...
Since completing the Great Representations programme, we have continued to develop our practice further by...
- Sharing relevant articles with staff
- Purchasing clear plasters, suitable for all skin tones
- Introducing 'One World Week'.
One World Week was an exciting event where the children were able to celebrate different cultures and their heritage with others across the school. They were invited to wear clothes that were important to them, listen to parent speakers talking about their heritage, cook dishes using ingredients they may have never used before, take part in a Taiko drumming workshop and learn words from another language. The highlight of the week was our multicultural food fair, where the whole school community enjoyed a feast of delights provided by the children and their families.
Thank you...
Finally, we would like to say a big thank you to all the children, parents, carers, staff, visitors and trainers for all the support you have given us in helping our school to become an inclusive, diverse community.
