Attendance

As a Herts County Council maintained school we follow the HCC Pupil School Attendance Policy (link below). This is aligned with the;

  • DfE statutory guidance 'Working Together to Improve School Attendance' August 2024
  • Education (Penalty Notices) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2024.

We recognise that positive behaviour and good attendance are essential in order for pupils to get the most of their school experience including; their attainment, wellbeing and wider life chances. Working in partnership with families and our Local Authority Attendance Officer we aim to keep whole school attendance above 96%.

The school office team are responsible for the day to day management of pupil attendance. Additionally our School Business Manager is the Attendance Champion SLT Member.

Families are responsible for reporting absences either via a phone call to the school office 01462 670398 (an answer phone is available out of hours) or via an email to attendance@hillshott.herts.sch.uk

Pupil Attendance Policy

Leave of absence will not be granted in term time unless there are reasons considered to be exceptional by the Headteacher, irrespective of the child’s overall attendance. Only the Headteacher (not the local authority) may authorise such a request and all applications for a leave of absence must be made in writing, in advance on the prescribed form below.

A paper copy of this form is available from the school office.
