Children at the school all receive a free school lunch under the "universal free school meal" policy which allows all children in reception, year 1 and year 2 to receive a lunch at school if they wish. The school has catering provided by Herts catering, and follows the pupil choice menu. Children have the option of a hot meat based meal, a hot vegetarian meal or a cold packed lunch including fruit and fruit juice.
Religious and medically documented dietary needs are catered for, please ensure that you have informed us of any specific needs in writing. We regret that unless we have medical evidence of an intolerance or allergy we are unable to make adaptations to meals, this is the policy followed by Herts catering who employ the cooks and is not a school policy. Herts catering require an online form regarding allergies to be completed, we will support you in completing this if needed. A meeting will be arranged between Herts catering and the parents or carers of any child with medical evidence showing that their diet requires adaptations to the meals provided. Please speak to us about any specific issues, but please be aware of the above restrictions imposed by Herts catering. It is the parent or carer's responsibility to inform the school in writing of any allergies or dietary restrictions that their child may have, and to keep this information up to date.
Children in reception have their meals pre-selected by their parents on a 3 week basis, letters are sent home to allow this so that you are aware of the choices that your child makes and can support them. Children in year 1 and 2 make their own choice from the menu on a daily basis.
Children can bring their own packed lunches from home if they wish. All children eat together in the school hall, or in good weather packed lunches may be eaten under the outside gazebo.
A copy of the latest menu is available on the website and paper copies are available in school.
From time to time special themed meals are provided, you will be asked in advance if your child wishes to take up these options e.g. Christmas, bonfire night, sports lunches etc.
